Even though Eliza Dushku was only at MegaCon 2014 for one day, it was so exciting to have met her. She was so sweet. I put a list together of my favorite characters she played and here they are.

On a side note, it was also a pleasure to meet James Marsters once again.

Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer: She first came along in season three as a new slayer that joins Buffy and the gang, but her outlook on slaying is different from how Buffy sees it. Faith is overconfident and doesn’t care about what anyone thinks of her, among other things. This caused friction between the two slayers and eventually they became enemies. Some of my most favorite fight scenes are between Buffy and Faith.

Tru Davies from Tru Calling: She’s a morgue worker with an amazing psychic ability. When a body comes in, it asks for Tru’s help and she has to repeat the day in order to prevent that person from getting killed by solving the mystery behind it. What impresses me the most is Tru’s photographic memory. Just one quick look is all she needs to remember everything.

Missy Pantone from Bring it On: This is one of her few comedic roles. Missy is a spunky teenage gymnast, who joins the cheerleading squad. I like her witty persona and how she makes such a big difference as part of the squad.

Jessie Burlingame from Wrong Turn: As part of a group of young friends in the woods, Jessie is tough, courageous, and knows how to take charge. It really shows when she’s confronted by the cannibals. Too bad Jessie isn’t in any of the sequels.

Dana Tacker from True Lies: She’s the young rebellious teenage daughter of computer salesman/spy Harry Tacker. I admit that I didn’t recognize Eliza Dushku when I first saw this movie, but it’s nice to see her in some of her earlier roles as well as her modern ones.

What are some of your favorites?

After Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended in 2003, some of the actors went into the music biz.

James Marsters

James Marsters has a solo album called Civilized Man and he performed some of his songs with an acoustic guitar at FX Convention in Orlando in 2009. He even mentioned at his Q&A that the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was his most favorite. He and Anthony Stewart Head were the only cast members with singing experience. So it was more difficult for the others.

Juliet Landau

Juliet Landau was in a Godhead music video as a dancer. While Jason Charles Miller, the lead singer of Godhead, was performing that song at the FX Convention in Orlando in 2009, Juliet was in the background dancing to it. She really had that choreography down, it was amazing. Juliet Landau sang with Jason Charles Miller later that evening. I looked forward to it and she was great. They said it was the very first time she sang in public. I wonder, if Drusilla had been in the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. What would that have been like?

Adam Busch and Amber Benson

Adam Busch sings in a folk rock band called Common Rotation. The band’s latest album “Isalie” was released in the fall of 2006.

Although Emma Caufield and Amber Benson had beautiful singing voices on the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, neither of them have any plans for recording an album, according to a Q&A at Mini MegaCon 2009 in Orlando.

The creative series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as the lead. Now attending high school in Sunnydale, Buffy not only has a new watcher, but a Scooby gang as well. One thing I don’t understand is that in the movie version, Buffy was a senior. On this show, she starts as a sophomore. That’s a little strange, but then again, the series does work better with more of the seasons taking place at the high school. Smart move, Joss Whedon.

Buffy wax statue

In case you were wondering. This is not the real Sarah Michelle Gellar with me. It's a statue from Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Las Vegas in 2004.

Other than vampires, this show has creative takes on other types of old monsters like zombies, werewolves, robots, witches, ghosts, fairytale creatures like the Gentlemen, Hansel and Gretel, and even Dracula himself. There are also many different types of demons. Just like how Futurama has many different types of aliens and mutants. As much of a drama as this show is, it’s also got it’s share of comedy.

As if all of those monsters weren’t difficult enough, the various monsters aren’t the only threats the hellmouth had to offer. There were times that Buffy and the gang were confronted by magic spells and curses. Such items include; animal possession, a student turning invisible because she was being treated that way, everyone turning into whatever Halloween costume they were wearing, drinking beer that turns college students into cavemen, worst fears coming to life, and the ever popular, everybody suddenly breaking into song. Now that’s creative material.

The fight scenes are amazing. When a vampire is killed, they turn to dust with a neat effect. Too bad it doesn’t work the same way with killing demons.

There were some other great characters also.  But one character who went through a major transformation was Spike (James Marsters).  He started out as a tough villain.  Then he had a chip put in his head that prevents him from harming any humans, which forced him to be a good guy.  He was a pretty useful member of the Scooby gang though.

Charisma Carpenter at Mini MegaCon 2009

I met a lot of cast members from this series at several different conventions. The cast members I’ve met so far are; Nicholas Brendan (Xander), James Marsters (Spike), Clare Kramer (Glory), Julie Benz (Darla), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Emma Caulfield (Anya), Amber Benson (Tara), Adam Busch (Warren), and Camden Toy (various demons).

Clare Kramer at FX Convention 2009

I’d have to say that out of all of the Buffy cast members that I’ve had the opportunity to meet, Clare Kramer, who played the evil goddess Glory in season 5, was the sweetest.

Look for pictures of other cast members from Buffy the Vampire Slayer on future posts.
